• Detroit Region Selected over a Competing Location in Georgia
  • AKASOL Expected to Generate $40M Investment and Create 224 Jobs

As transportation sectors shift towards electrification globally, AKASOL AG needed to support its significant growth and customers by opening dedicated operations in North America.

AKASOL Inc. established a battery system manufacturing facility in the Detroit region, a project that is expected to generate a total private investment of $40 million and create 224 jobs. Thus, the site in Detroit region was selected over a competing location in Georgia.

“Our region is poised to deliver a talented workforce for AKASOL Inc and their innovative products in the mobility marketplace,” said Justin Robinson, Senior Vice President of Business Development for the Detroit Region Partnership. “They are leaders and innovators in the future of sustainable mobility and we are pleased that they chose our region to continue their growth in this space.”

The Detroit region employs one hundred thousand individuals in the research, engineering, and design space, and has the only UNESCO City of Design designation in the Unites States. Home to over 80,000 engineers (the greatest concentration in the United States), we graduate over 60,000 students annually from 35 colleges and universities. And of those graduates, 45% earn a STEM degree.

“The Detroit Region is thrilled to have been selected by Akasol AG for its US battery production facility for the commercial vehicle market,” said Detroit Regional Partnership President and CEO Barry Matherly. “The company is a global leader in the design and build of e-mobility solutions and our team is pleased we were able to demonstrate a highly compelling business case around the strengths of the region.”
