DETROIT, July 7, 2026 – The Global Epicenter of Mobility (GEM), a signature program of the Detroit Regional Partnership designed to create a smart, secure and sustainable advanced mobility industry across the Detroit Region, has launched the Detroit Region Advanced Mobility Insights Series – a new initiative created to help mobility stakeholders navigate rapidly-changing industry dynamics.
Commissioned by GEM Central Research, the series will include research reports, market analyses and briefings that examine technologies, trends, external forces and industries shaping the future of mobility. These will allow business leaders and other decision-makers to better recognize, plan for and respond to the opportunities, risks and challenges expected to impact the Detroit Region’s economy.
“Building a strong and sustainable mobility industry requires stakeholders to pivot quickly to both internal and external factors that can impact success,” said Bernard Swiecki, vice president, mobility & research for the Detroit Regional Partnership. “Our Mobility Insights Series aims to eliminate guesswork and allow decision-makers to take a more proactive approach to changing market conditions instead of reacting to change as it happens.”
The initiative will largely focus on two key areas: Technology Adoption and Industry Transformation, and Future Frontiers of Mobility Systems.
These topics were identified through a survey of 90 respondents representing a broad range of mobility industry leaders and stakeholders across the Detroit Region. The results of the survey suggest stakeholders recognize change is coming and that they are now more concerned about where it is occurring, how quickly it is advancing and what it means for long-term planning and growth.
The initiative will also feature additional engagements exploring workforce development, innovation ecosystems, supply chain dynamics and other emerging issues.
The Mobility Insights Series builds on previous GEM Central research exploring specific aspects of where the mobility industry is headed in the years to come. Part of GEM’s broader Road to 2030 initiative, the Future Mobility Technology Study outlined seven priority technologies – including battery design and chemistry, e-motors, power electronics, and propulsion thermal systems – expected to drive investment and employment through 2030. GEM also worked with SEMCA Michigan Works! and PwC to develop a companion study exploring how workforce development, training and retention will impact the Region’s ability to secure and sustain economic growth in the mobility industry.
