From 2019-2024, $11 billion in Foreign Direct Investment from 343 companies came into the Detroit Region, reinforcing the Detroit Regional Partnership’s priority to build and maintain relationships with international companies. Last month, the Detroit Regional Partnership traveled to Austria, Germany and France alongside our regional partners to further this mission.
Austria’s Industry Alignment with the Detroit Region
In Austria, DRP partnered with Detroit Economic Growth Corporation and Warner Norcross + Judd to meet with prospective companies exploring future growth in North America. These conversations gave the DRP and our partners the opportunity to highlight the alignment between Austria’s top industries and the Detroit Region’s assets and strengths in advanced manufacturing, mobility, aerospace, engineering, and research.

Germany Remains a Key Market for DRP
Germany remains one of the Detroit Region’s most important international markets due to existing investment in our communities and alignment between Germany’s industries and our regional strengths. In Germany, the delegation met with existing regional investors and prospective companies evaluating future U.S. expansion. These meetings provided an opportunity to support ongoing projects, strengthen long standing relationships, and introduce new companies to the advantages of locating in the Detroit Region.
France Hosts Leading Defense and Security Exhibition
This year, France hosted Eurosatory, one of the world’s leading defense and security exhibitions. As the global defense industry continues to evolve, the Detroit Region is uniquely positioned to support future growth through its advanced manufacturing capabilities, engineering expertise, skilled workforce, and growing defense industrial base. We continue to see significant investment from defense companies across the region, including the recent expansion of American Rheinmetall, reinforcing the Detroit Region’s emergence as a leading location for defense innovation and advanced manufacturing. Throughout the exhibition, the DRP met with companies from across Europe and around the world that are exploring opportunities to establish or expand their North American footprint.
International Interest Remains Strong in the Detroit Region
Strong interest in the Detroit Region continues to stand out during these international engagements. Companies consistently recognize our region as a strategic location because of our manufacturing heritage, world class talent, robust research and engineering ecosystem, and proximity to customers across North America.
