The Detroit Regional Partnership (DRP) is an economic development nonprofit dedicated to serving and promoting the 11-county region of southeast Michigan. Founded in 2019 by a group of business and philanthropic CEOs, our organization is laser-focused on marketing the region to out-of-state and international companies, attracting investments, spurring job growth, and sharing the Detroit Region’s story with the world.

DRP is looking for a creative and passionate GIS & Research Coordinator to join our team, supporting our mission to attract new business prospects, job opportunities and corporate investment into the region. The Research/GIS coordinator will creatively display economic and regional information in response to client requests that demonstrates the Detroit Region’s strengths. The position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Business Intelligence and will require close collaboration with the Senior Manager of Research, as well as the business development and marketing teams to successfully execute assigned responsibilities.


  • GIS analysis and cartographic solutions
  • Maintain and update geospatial data libraries utilizing best practices
  • Development and maintenance of static maps, interactive maps, and web applications of the Detroit Region, including, but not limited to, infrastructure, workforce, companies, transit, demographics, and business climate
  • Updating and making maps accessible to the team through ArcGIS Online, SharePoint, and TeamSlide
  • Conduct location and other geospatial analysis, including competitor locations, drive time studies, and suitability analysis
  • Regional investment tracking, mapping, and analysis, including DRP Projects, foreign direct investment, and other notable regional investments
  • Data visualization using Excel, Tableau, ArcGIS Business Analyst, and/or ArcGIS Dashboards
  • Update the seven (7) industry cluster StoryMaps that convey the Detroit Region’s story to domestic and international audiences


  • Support the Business Development teams with geospatial analysis relevant to the domestic and international programs
  • Customized workforce and regional asset mapping for RFI fulfillment and public partner requests
  • Translate and input existing data, including hard-copy maps, topographic maps, site plans, electronic maps, and Global Positioning System (GPS) data, into a common format
  • Review existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation
  • Staying current on new GIS technology, identifying trends, and helping lead innovation among team members
  • Other duties as directed by management



For consideration, the candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:


  • Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in geography, geographic information systems, urban planning, or a closely related program
  • Course work in economics, statistics, marketing, or finance preferred. GIS certificate/certification in addition to bachelor’s degree in related field will also be considered


  • This position requires 1 to 3 years of related experience and/or training in economic development, research, project management, or urban planning
  • Demonstrated experience with Esri software required
  • Esri web app builders and ArcGIS Business Analyst experience preferred
  • ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online experience required
  • Tableau or Power BI preferred

  • Familiarity with federal and state economic and workforce data sources and internet research

  • Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
  • Familiarity with TeamSlide a plus
