National Beverage Manufacturer to build state-of-the-art facility in Detroit Region’s Shelby Township

Niagara Bottling to create 50 jobs, generate $100 million investment with 1st Michigan plant

DETROIT (August 5, 2022) – The Detroit Regional Partnership (DRP) applauds the announcement that Niagara Bottling, a leading beverage manufacturer, is slated to build a new facility in Shelby Township, its first in Michigan. The expansion is expected to generate a total capital investment of over $100 million and at least 50 jobs.

“Our manufacturing talent is second to none, and once again was the difference maker in a leading North American company choosing to locate in the Detroit Region,” said Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO, Detroit Regional Partnership. “We are excited to welcome Niagara Bottling to Michigan and the Detroit Region. We thank our partners at the state, county and township for working together to attract another strong employer to our world-class manufacturing base.”

Niagara plans to construct a new manufacturing facility, outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The company will begin hiring in the coming months with the facility expected to become operational in spring 2023. Additionally, Niagara will offer job training opportunities and support career advancement for its employees.

DRP worked with the beverage manufacturer throughout its site selection process in the Detroit Region by connecting the company to sites, utilities, incentives, and local community partners. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Business Development Program provided a $350,000 performance-based grant to support the project while Macomb County provided additional assistance and Shelby Township plans to make water and sewer infrastructure improvements.

“The Detroit Regional Partnership was an invaluable resource and partner in our site search efforts in Michigan and assisted our team in making community and utility connections throughout our evaluation process,” said Brian Hess, Executive Vice President.

Niagara manufactures an assortment of nationally recognized beverage brands, including sparkling, vitamin, and flavored waters, teas, sports drinks, ready-to-drink coffee, protein drinks, non-dairy milk products, and bottled water.

“This project is a great example of what can be possible with collaboration among multiple government and economic development agencies,” said Vicky Rowinski, director, Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development. “Niagara Bottling is a great addition to Macomb County and I am pleased to welcome them to our community.”
